So I was in the middle of moving across town last weekend when I got a panicked text from a teammate saying something to the effect of "OMG DREW'S MAKING THE CHARTER DUE TOMORROW. SHOULD WE MEET?!". Ninety-nine percent of the time, I am free as a bird. I have an incredibly supportive boss who is flexible with my work hours so I can take off for impromptu school-related meetings in the afternoon, and I have a great fiance who does things like take the dog out if I get held up, but this happened to be one of the rare moments in time when I could just not get away. Not only was I moving, which meant I didn't have an internet connection, so FaceTime was out, I had volunteered to spend Monday watching my nephew during my brother-in-law's chemo treatment. My team totally stepped up and covered my back, and we agreed that they would send me a draft to look over and comment on before we turned in the final. Plus, after debating whether or not this was a "to text Drew or not text Drew" moment (it was), it turned out the charter wasn't even due just yet. The point was, I felt like a crummy teammate, and this early on in the game, not only are we "wooing" our client; we're "wooing" each other. I want to put my best foot forward and gain my team's trust, so Monday morning I dove into the charter draft and outlined a list of all the activities and deliverables we'll be responsible for over the course of the semester to make up my slack. It was the Capstone equivalent of showing up under a jilted lover's window with a boombox and flowers. Next week, I'll be back on track, and who knows, maybe I'll be the one covering for one of my teammate's. That's the point of the team, right?
