This week I found myself reminiscing on the good old days when the month of May signaled the end of the school year, which is then followed by a nice three month reprieve from the stresses of academia. These short flashbacks were serving only as a short breaks from the grind in which this summer semester is likely to entail. Between sending emails, Big Picture review, initial client meeting preparation, familiarizing myself with the Capstone Field Book, and by the way just a few other assignments for my other classes this summer, a little break from the action from time to time was certainly necessary.
Admittedly after the first Capstone class meeting I did not feel an overwhelming amount of confidence in myself going into this project. This whole project scenario is eerily similar to blind date. You are being put in an uncomfortable situation in the hopes something great comes as a result. This leads to a million questions flying through your mind such as, will this person like me? Will you like them? Am I saying the right things? How is this situation all going to play out? I think you get the analogy by now, but really the question we are all seeking is, is this going to be the beginning of something magical? In the scope of the Capstone project I think we are all hoping for answers to those very same questions as it relates to both our clients and our team members. In the end though, we all are still looking for the fairy tale ending which Disney has so gracefully conditioned our childhoods with time and time again.
In all seriousness however, this week has been one which has left me conflicted on how I truly feel. At times I feel invigorated and excited to get the process started. In contrast, at others I have been left with a feeling of angst with a side of impatience. All in all, at this very moment at 2:02 AM on Monday May 18, 2015, I do believe I have settled on the feeling of, drum roll please, sheer determination and poise.
This week will be the beginning of something special in Jenny, Mayuri, and my life respectfully, no matter the outcome of the final project. I will wrap this post up with saying, later today is the beginning of a journey for our team that will be full of ups and downs, but at the end of the day will be remembered by each of us for the rest of our lives. Today is the day when we start on the path of leaving our marks on the Marketing world.
