Our journey so far has been exciting. Our interviews with managers has made this project more interesting and engaging. We now understand the company and our project more deeply and with each day, it is growing to be more challenging and interesting, at the same time. Our current task, right now, is to conduct competitive analysis for Evans landscaping and to understand their core competency by working on their current big picture. We visited Evans retail stores and spoke to the retail and store managers. But the most exciting part at this point, was visiting Evan’s competitor store. We visited one of Evans competitor to get a glimpse of how they conduct their business. During our interviews with Evans managers, we observed that not many were aware about their competitor strategies, financials or business model. Visiting the store and interacting with competitor‘s employees, helped us gain a better perspective and make some clear comparison between Evans and their competitors and understand the customer segment of the landscaping business.
Being aware about the other companies in the market, helps to better understand the customers and fulfil their needs more closely leading to customer satisfaction. When we started with our competitive matrix, we had a tough time obtaining specific financial information of competitors. Based on Drew’s suggestion, we then steered away from financial information and decided to base our comparison on other parameters instead, like number of workforce/employees, number of trucks, number of working hours, product ranges etc. With the data in hand, we now look forward to working on Evans’ current big picture.
