This past week, Ryan and I attended The Faculty Club’s board meeting, which I really enjoyed and appreciated that they had invited us (and not just because of the delicious scones Chef David prepared for us!). It was actually very interesting to see the dynamics of how the Club is run by the decision-makers. Because the board of governors is comprised of faculty members and retired faculty members, with the exception of the Chef, there isn’t anyone who is running the club as their full-time job. Chef David does an exceptional job at maintaining the day-to-day operations, but he unfortunately does not have the time to think much further beyond that. I think that it is because of this why they were all so open and supportive of every single idea that we proposed. Nearly all of our proposed ideas came from studying other faculty clubs in the country and figuring out the specific aspects that have made them so successful.
Now that I’ve heard their excitement about our ideas, I am starting to feel much better about our overall project and like we are beginning to have a clearer focus on how to achieve our end goals. While I am hoping that the beginning is the toughest part and the rest is smooth sailing, there are bound to be additional challenges ahead and I am eager to see how well we handle them.
