Even before I officially started studying at University of Cincinnati, I had heard a lot about the Capstone Project. In the past two Semesters all I heard my batch mates say was how Capstone was a lot of work and a lot of sleepless nights. The opportunity that capstone would offer always sounded exciting. But hearing what everybody had to say, I was always skeptical if I could meet every expectation.
For my Capstone I will be working on a project for a startup company- Bailout, along with my classmate Ross.
Bailout is an innovative self-rescue system for fire fighters. I was thrilled to know I would be working on a project for it. The product concept was unique and it is a great opportunity and a challenge, to work on a new product.
I was extremely excited for our initial client meet. Ross, I and our client- Erik Zamudio had exchanged emails introducing ourselves but getting to know everything about the product from Erik was something that I was really looking forward to. Professor Boyd always mentions that we need to be prepared with research and background information about the project and the client. As a student consultant we needed to know everything we could about the project before the initial client meet. I checked out the website and read all about the product. I tried to do a background research on my client on LinkedIn and I couldn’t find our client anywhere. Or that is what I thought. And I had no idea about our client at all. When our client arrived, I was really surprised to see how young our client was. It is really inspiring to see how at such a young age he has achieved so many things because of his skills and hard work.
After the first meeting I am even more excited to work on this project. Our primary objective was extremely clear after this meeting. We need to develop a marketing channel strategy to drive awareness towards individuals with purchasing power in the Fire Fighting industry. After the meeting we discussed on various things we wanted to do to get the project started. What I felt really good about after the first meeting was, that neither Ross nor I jumped and made any assumptions about the final outcome. We are trying to put everything we have learned so far together to decide what our approach and first step should be for the project.
Getting to know more about the firefighting department is definitely going to be a bonus while working on this project.
