I can't believe I'm already in my second semester of the MS Marketing program, but here I am. This semester is about to be crazy for me since I am working full time and in school full time, but if I manage my time correctly and keep my spirits up, I know I can finish strong. Then, I'll only have one more semester and I'll be off to the world of adulthood.
For my capstone, I will be working with Stephanie Polen from the Polen Group as well as her colleague Priya Klocek. Both of them teach people how to use diversity as a way to solve problems and build relationships. These too take a unique approach to diversity, where they tie together cultural and cognitive diversity to gain a competitive advantage. I have been tasked with showing how diversity can drive business results and benefits. I will also try to find a target audience for their new program, and find out if there are any competitive programs already being offered.
To accomplish this, I plan on searching scholarly articles to see if there have been any studies on leveraging diversity. I also plan to create a "persona" for the businesses that would be interested in using their services. Already, I can see the business would be one that values individuality, creative thinking, and personal growth of employees.
I have a second meeting with my clients this week, so before I go, I intend to start doing research on competitive programs and evidence that diversity training programs can drive results. Then, during the coming weeks, I plan on doing research on businesses that would be interested in the programs to help form a person. After forming a persona, I am going to develop some strategies they can use to reach their ideal clients. If I am successful, I will be able to say I helped launch the most innovative diversity training programs on the market.
